GALVESTON —
Alan D. McCoy, 75, Galveston, went home to be with his Lord at 8:33 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo.
He was born Sept. 4, 1937, to Frederick D. and Sarah (Spence) McCoy in Galveston. On Sept. 8, 1956, he married Marjorie (Naphew) McCoy who survives.
Alan and Marjorie owned and operated McCoy’s Grocery in Galveston from 1976 to 1994. Alan had worked in the store for many years before purchasing it. He also worked for the Galveston Lumber yard from 1955 to 1962. After closing the grocery store in 1994, Alan started his own heating and cooling business in the Galveston area.
Alan was also a volunteer fireman and EMT. He joined the Galveston Volunteer Fire Department when he turned 21. He also served as Fire Chief for many years. Alan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Galveston where he enjoyed singing gospel music with his family. He also enjoyed boating.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie McCoy, Galveston, daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Neal Rouch, Galveston, Daughter-in-law, Linda McCoy, Galveston, grandchildren, Angela McCoy Archer and companion Michael Claar, Andrew McCoy and companion Patricia Slaughter, Eliza and husband Kyle Corn and Levi Rouch, great-grandchildren, Dannielle, Jeremy, Savannah and Jacob Archer and Victoria McCoy, brother, James “Jim” McCoy and wife Bessie, Young America.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, John McCoy, and grandson, John Paul McCoy, and sister, Sylvia Lee McCoy.
Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Galveston, with Rev. Joel Surface and Rev. Warren Purcell officiating.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Church.
