Robert P. “Hoot” Neher

KOKOMO — Robert P. “Hoot” Neher, 71, Kokomo, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, in the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette.

Born Aug. 1, 1941 in Logansport, he is the son of the late Guy Everette Neher and Alice Merrill (Middleton) Neher. He graduated from Logansport High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. On Nov. 27, 1965, in Mt. Lebanon Friends Church in Tipton County, he married Irisha K. (Kinder), and she survives. He was employed with Exide in Logansport for 27 years; also Chrysler Corp. in Kokomo for 12 years before retiring. He was a member of the United Auto Workers.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Irisha K. Neher, Kokomo; two daughters Shelly (Roger) Williams, Windfall, and Alisha Neher, Kokomo; two sisters Joy (Myron) Sharp, Howe, and Mary Lou (Jerry) Fry, Logansport; grandchildren Hope, Josie and Seth Williams, Windfall; also several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill E. Neher and Jack Neher.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hazel Dell Friends Church, 4017 E. C.R. 300 North, Windfall, with Dave Freelan officiating.

Burial with military rites by the U.S. Navy and the Kokomo Military Rites Team will follow in Windfall Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the mortuary. You may read the Neher obituary at www.ellersmortuary.com where you can sign the guestbook, order flowers, or share a personal message to the family.
