Fred C. Gast

Services for Fred C. Gast, 95, Logansport, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

He died at 6:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born on March 22, 1913, in Thornhope, he was the son of John Carl Gast and Fredericka Augusta Springborn Gast. He was married Dec. 7, 1933, in Star City, to Dorothy M. Hiatt, who survives.

They would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on Dec. 7, 2008.

Through the years, he enjoyed fishing trips to Wisconsin, winters in Daytona Beach, Fla., and summers on Lake Bruce.

Most of all, he treasured his life-long friendship with the men of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a proud member of that fraternity for 37 years, retiring in 1977.

He was a 50-year member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers, Tipton Lodge No. 33, F&AM.; He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, Logansport Eagles and an avid White Sox fan.

Surviving with his wife is daughter, Shirley C. Thomas, Logansport; two grandsons, Brad Gast, Culver, and Rob Gast, Rochester; four great-grandchildren, Devin Gast, Culver, Chandler Gast, Culver, Cameron Gast, Rochester, and Courtney Gast, Rochester.

He was preceded in death by sons, Robert and Marvin Gast; granddaughter, Cheryl Ann Thomas; son-in-law, James Thomas; daughter-in-law, Sue Gast; brother, Louis Gast; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Archie M. and Sadie Hiatt.

Interment will follow services in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services Wednesday at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.
