Hazel M. Burris Coy

BURLINGTON — Services for Hazel M. Burris Coy, 95, Weslaco, Texas, formerly of Kokomo, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Stout & Son Funeral Home, Neptune Chapel, 44 Michigan St., Burlington.

She died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, in Weslaco Rehab and Nursing Home.

Born Feb. 20, 1913, in Ervin Township Howard County, she was the daughter of Murt and Nellie Davis Burris. She was married May 4, 1932, to Simeon J. Coy, who preceded in death Feb. 16, 1987. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with renewal of vows at Howard Brethren Church in 1982.

A 1932 graduate of Young America High School, Hazel was a farm wife working on the Coy Farms in Ervin Township.

She was a member of Church of the Brethren and later attended Judson Baptist Church in the summer months and Nazarene church in Weslaco in the winter. She spent the winter months with her daughter in Donna, Texas, and the summers at her home in Ervin Township. For several years, she was a member of Christian Women’s group, Homemaker’s Club and donated many quilts to We Care and worked with several benevolent groups in Kokomo. She also had been a member of the Eastern Star for many years.

She is survived by one son, Donald M. Coy (Ruth), Logansport; a daughter, Joan Bowen, Donna, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Gary Britton will officiate. Burial will follow in South Union Cemetery in Howard County.

Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
