Don R. White

Services for Don R. White, 78 of Winamac, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, 304 S. Chicago St., Royal Center.

He passed away at 6:15 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.

Born Feb. 19, 1931, in Star City, he was the son of the late Daniel S. and Martha H. (Hood) White. On Dec. 14, 1957, he married Norine Lehiy, and she preceded him in death on May 8, 1991.

He was a graduate of Star City High School.

Don formerly owned and operated a pulp wood company in Winamac for many years. He also worked as an insurance agent at First Union Bank & Trust in Winamac and later for JI Case in Winamac, retiring in 1990. Most recently, he retired from INDOT, where he worked as sub-district manager.

He was a member of F&AM; and Scottish Rite in South Bend, and also of the Moose Lodge 1107 in Rochester. His hobbies included woodworking, buying tools, riding his scooter and spending time with friends.

Survivors include one son, Robert A. White, one sister, Patricia Powers, and special friend, Barbara Reeves, all of Winamac.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Douglas R. White, on Jan. 15, 1971; one brother, Daniel White; and one sister, Mary Ann White Planck.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the funeral home.

Rev. Glen Myers will officiate, and burial will be in Winamac Cemetery.
