Two police officers will lead a discussion next week about gangs and graffiti.
Travis Yike and Carlos Leal of the Logansport Police Department will speak at a meeting of Diversity Dynamics at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the city council chambers on the third floor of the City Building, 601 E. Broadway. The public is invited to attend and participate.
“Diversity Dynamics has been meeting for over 10 years with the purpose of working to embrace diversity in our community,” Logansport Deputy Mayor Linda Klinck said in a news release. “Unfortunately, right now, we are dealing with graffiti and the fear of gang development.”
The meeting comes in the wake of a rash of graffiti reports at homes across the city. Police are also investigating reports two men on mo-peds firing shots into a crowd of people last week. The shots missed their target, but a local mother reported that her child was injured by debris as two bullets came through the wall of her home.
Klinck noted that some residents were placing the blame for the recent issues on the city’s diverse population.
“It is important for Diversity Dynamics to help educate the public about the facts of these issues and work together to become aware of how we can help to make a safer community that we all want,” she said.
Diversity Dynamics is an organization comprised of residents partnering to embrace and champion diversity in the community. Its mission is to bring people together to understand, appreciate and respect their differences and recognize one another’s dignity and worth.
