Robert Owen Laird

Robert Owen Laird, 92, Logansport passed away at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, in Millers Merry Manor.

Born on Nov, 29, 1920, in Fulton County, he was the son of the late Owen and Ruth Bevelheimer Laird. On Aug. 25, 1946, he married Mary Jane Chambers who preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 2005.

Robert worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a fireman and then retired in 1995 as the owner and operator of Markley Abstract Company after 45 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Robert was a United States Navy Veteran, serving on the USS Detroit. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 60, and the Elks Lodge No. 66.

Surviving Robert is one daughter, Ruth E. Laird, Overland Park, Kan.; one son, Mike (Pamela) Laird, Logansport; three grandchildren, Michelle A. (Phill) Laird Dials, Logansport; Michael D. Laird, and Melissa D. Laird, both of Indianapolis; two brothers, Donald (Merriam) Laird, Camarillo, Calif.; and Walter Laird, Mt. Shasta, Calif.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Larry DeVos officiating. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery, Logansport. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday also in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
