Norma Lowry


Norma Lowry, 88, Logansport, passed away at 6:40 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, in Miller’s Merry Manor, where she was recovering from recent hip surgery.

Born March 21, 1921, in Lapel, located in Madison County, she was the daughter of Cecil L. and Anna L. Sears McClintock. On June 13, 1948, in Indianapolis, she married the love of her life, Dr. Charles H. Lowry.

Norma was a graduate of Indiana University, earning her bachelors of arts degree in education. She was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. In 1976, she retired from Lincoln Middle School, where she had taught math for many years.

A long-time devoted member of First United Methodist Church, Norma was active in the Joy Circle and served on many committees. She was a member of the Logansport Tourist Club, the PEO Sisterhood, the Rose Society, the Cass County Historical Society, Tri Kappa and the American Association of University Women.

Surviving are one daughter, Karla Lowry Farrar (Ken), Charleston, S.C.; one son, Kent Ray Lowry (Cathy Breitenbucher), of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; son-in-law, William Dwight VanHorn III, Iowa City, Iowa; her brother, Karl W. McClintock, Clermont, Fla.; her beloved grandchildren, Brian Farrar, Justin Farrar and Greta Lowry; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles on Feb. 20, 1989, and one daughter, Anita Kay Lowry, who died in 1996.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday in Fisher Funeral Chapel. Services will follow at 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Bill Shannon officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Brookside Cemetery, Lapel.
