Aldena M. Rayl


Aldena M. Rayl, 85, Logansport, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, surrounded by family members.

Born Jan. 24, 1924, in Kokomo, Aldena was the oldest child of Glen and Susie Etherington McCain. She was married April 5, 1942, to Guy P. Rayl, who preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1983.

Aldena grew up in Kokomo, and graduated from Northwestern High School in Clay Township in Howard County. She lived most of her life in Logansport, where she engaged in a long and successful career as a beautician in which she became a friend to many.

She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

Aldena was an avid reader, particularly of devotional and inspirational literature. She enjoyed gardening, as well as a variety of sewing crafts, such as needlepoint, embroidery, quilting and crocheting.

She kept a diary continuously from her pre-teen years and corresponded regularly with family and friends.

Aldena was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Delta Theta Chi sorority and the Forty-Niners in Washington Township. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are four sons, Kenneth (late wife, Betty) Rayl, Danville, Roger (Jane) Rayl, Kokomo, Randy (Patty) Rayl, Carmel, and Kraig (Lori) Rayl, Logansport; one daughter, Kathy (Rev. Dr. Ron) Staley, Barrington, N.H.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard McCain, Burlington; sister, Barbara (Dale) Barnhart, Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kroeger Funeral Home with son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Ronald Staley, officiating.

Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, Kokomo.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
