Juanita L. Wysong, 94, Logansport, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 29, 1915, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Harvey L. and Bessie Taylor Berryman. On Aug. 4, 1951, in Lafayette, she was married to Howard W. Wysong, who preceded her in death March 22, 1985.
Juanita was a 1933 graduate of Logansport High School. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, playing piano for the school choir and orchestra and accompanying the Young People’s Christian Union Choir for several years after graduation. When WSAL was a brand-new radio station in 1949, Juanita was its first staff pianist, playing on live broadcasts. She was also the accompanist for the Purdue Cass County Extension Homemakers Chorus for over 30 years. In earlier years, she had taught piano lessons in her home. Juanita played for numerous weddings and funerals throughout the Logansport area.
The congregation of the Helm Street Church of God in Logansport has been blessed and inspired by Juanita’s beautiful piano and organ music since she was 16 years old. She and her sisters, known as the Berryman Trio, sang together for many years at church and community events. In 1987, the Helm Street Church of God declared a special day “Juanita Wysong Day” in honor of her service to the church. Juanita, a homemaker, could have “gone professional” with her music, but decided that path might have led her away from the life of the church, and she could not allow that to happen. So, she remained faithful to the Lord, using her talents for His glory all her life long.
She is survived by one son, John H. Wysong (Missy Hatten), Logansport; one daughter, Lou Ann (Daryl) Myran, Greenfield; two sisters, Alyce L. Murray and Donna J. Cotner, both of Logansport; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Helm Street Church of God with the Revs. Dean Snyder and Dellmus Hall officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Clymers.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Fisher Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the services in the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Helm Street Church of God building fund.
