James F. ‘Jim’ Goodrich

ROYAL CENTER — James F. “Jim” Goodrich, 94, Royal Center, passed away at 11:34 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Woodbridge Health Campus.

Born April 4, 1918, in Royal Center, he was the son of the late W.J. and Hester A. (Friemel) Goodrich. On May 26, 1945, he married June O. Enge. She preceded him in death Jan. 7, 2006.

He was a 1936 Royal Center High School graduate.

He was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran, serving as a waist gunner in the European Theatre aboard a B17 bomber. He flew in the first night mission over Germany code-named “Lone Wolf” with the second bomb group based out of Italy.

Jim was formerly employed at National Steel. He was a truck driver for Palumbo Distributors in Logansport for 26 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of Royal Center United Methodist Church, VFW No. 3790 and a former member of the Teamsters. He enjoyed gardening and horticulture. Jim was also an avid baseball fan, especially the Chicago White Sox, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his children, Becky Black (Tim) of Pendleton, Steve Goodrich (Marilyn) of Rockfield, George Goodrich (Sharon) of Logansport and Loren Goodrich (Shellee) of Royal Center; a brother, Warren Goodrich (Imogene) of Royal Center; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Ann Goodrich; sister, Wilma Miller; and brother, Charles Goodrich.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Royal Center United Methodist Church. Burial with full military rites will be in Kistler Cemetery in Royal Center.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Royal Center United Methodist Church.

The family would also like to thank all those who touched Jim’s life with food, conversation and laughter.
