Billy ‘Bill’ J. Maroney

LUCERNE — Billy ‘Bill’ J. Maroney, 83, Lucerne, passed away at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 3, 1930, in Cass County, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Hilda Stookey Maroney. On June 7, 1971, in Logansport, Bill married Patricia A. Gibson who survives.

Mr. Maroney retired in 1989 from General Tire Company after 41 years of service.

Bill attended Metea High School, he was a member of the Metea Baptist Church, Gideons International, and American Legion Post No. 60. He was an Army Veteran, and a former referee and umpire. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, farming, sporting events, and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving along with his wife are three daughters, Billie Jo Mabrey, Walton; Vicki K. Galloway, Rochester; Kendra R. (Clark) Winn, Lucerne; four sons, Allen L. Maroney, Adamboro; Bernard R. Maroney, Walton; Thomas M. Maroney and Dennis E. Maroney, both of Lucerne; two stepdaughters, Sabrena (Dennis) Ide, Logansport; JoEllen (Dennis) Hines, Royal Center; stepson, Robert (Heidi) McClure, Denver, Colo.; four sisters, Phyllis Inman, Sue (Joe) Keisling, and Marilyn Schlaug, all of Logansport; sister James Agnes, Mishawaka; one brother, Larry (Carole) Maroney, Lucerne; 22 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Porshae Plake; step daughter, Christina DeWitt; two sisters, Barbara Clary and Eileen Musselman; and one brother Raymond “Dutch” Maroney.

A Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Cordes officiating. Burial will be in Metea Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International or Metea Baptist Church.
