Velva Jean Polen Lewis, 77, Logansport, formerly Lucerne, passed away at 12:02 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Chase Center.
Born Feb. 18, 1936, in Salyersville, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Homer and Famie (Carpenter) Rowe. On July 11, 1953, she married Allen Richard Polen.
He preceded her in death on April 25, 1991. She later married James E. Lewis on March 28, 1995, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2004.
Jean was a farm wife who helped her husband Allen on their dairy farm. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and listening to music.
Survivors include her children, Charles “Rick” Polen, Lucerne, Terry (Holly) Polen, Lucerne, Peggy (Curt) Benson, Lucerne, Cindy (Jon) Schirm, Logansport and Tracy Polen (Carl Scott), Lucerne, brothers, Seldon Rowe, Plymouth and Jess Mullins, Knox, sister, Melovie Rudd, Knox, grandchildren, Danielle (Joshua) Henry, Sun Prairie, Wis., Mark Polen, Nicholas Polen, both of Lucerne, Tony (Angie) Corn, Kewanna, Jerica (Phil) Weaver, Burnettsville, Linsey (Kyle) Reed, Royal Center, Brandy Temple, Logansport, Kellie Weaver, Greenwood, and Ashley Scott, Lucerne, and great-grandchildren, Jenna Weaver, Blaine Weaver, Eli Reed, Madison Temple, Jackson Temple and Paisli Winn.
She was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Harrison-Metzger and Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel, with Chaplain Dolly Bowen officiating. Burial will be at Citizens IOOF Cemetery, Kewanna.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
