Kenneth E, Kite

LAS VEGAS — Kenneth E. Kite, known affectionately as Kink by his family and high school friends, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, in Las Vegas. He was 78 years old.

He was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Logansport, Ind. to Claude Kite and Pauline Proctor Kite. Ken attended school in Logansport graduating with the class of 1952. After graduation he joined the US Marine Corps and served in the military during the Korean Conflict.

When he finished the marine corps, Ken received a football scholarship to attend Indiana State University, where he played on the team. In the early 1960s Ken decided to move west to a warmer climate. After a brief time in Phoenix, he relocated to Las Vegas, which would become his permanent home.

In Las Vegas he worked for the local Coca-Cola bottler delivering Coke to restaurants and bars. After a short time in delivery, he was promoted to Territory Manager for the parent Coca-Cola company out of Atlanta.

After working for Coke for over 10 years, he decided a change was needed and he opened the Huddle Lounge in the Mid 1970s. After selling the bar, he went to work for Young Electric Sign Company where he called on national clients. As 7-Eleven was one of his major clients he became very familiar with the business and eventually purchased his own franchise which he operated until he retired in 2005. As an avid golfer, his ability afforded him to have the opportunity to meet and play with many of the early casino owners, celebrities and professional athletes. He was a former member of Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas and Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs, Calif. He was also a long term member of the American Legion. In 2001, he purchases a second home in Palm Springs where he spent a majority of his time until 2011, when health reasons forced him to relocate back to Las Vegas permanently.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers, Bob Kite, Jim Kite, Dugan Kite and sister, Margie Burton and many wonderful life-long friends.

He is survived by his sister, Dona Cox, many nieces and nephews and extended family.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. There will be a graveside service in Logansport in the summer followed by a celebration of life. The exact dates have not been determined.
