Melvin A. Raihle

LOGANSPORT — Melvin A. Raihle, 84, Logansport, passed away at 2:49 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, in Chase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born May 31, 1928, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Arthur and Margaret Lehman Raihle. In August 1953, he married Helen McHugh Raihle, who preceded him in death in 1999. He was married Sept. 10, 2000, to Doris Neher Raihle, who survives.

Melvin was retired from retail sales after working for a jewelry store for many years. He had also been employed as a driver’s training instructor.

During the Korean War, Melvin served from 1951 to 1953 in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion in Chicago.  

Melvin was raised in the Catholic faith and attended parochial schools in Chicago. He was very talented as an artist and photographer. He kept in shape with weight lifting. Melvin also enjoyed reading, old movies and listening to his classical and jazz collection of music. He loved gardening and sharing his produce. His heart never left Chicago and he remained a loyal Cubs, Bears and Bulls fan. 

Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Genevieve Nuzzi, Bloomingdale, Ill., and her children, Domenico and Angelo, Maureen (husband, Don) Kandziora, Lake Forest, Ill., and their children, Ryan and Keeley, and Siobhan (husband, Michael) Koelsch, of Noblesville, and their children, Shannon, Connor and Quinn; one son, Kevin (wife, Peggy) Raihle, of Oak Park, Ill., and their children, Ryan, Sean, Lauren and Katie; two stepsons, Martin (wife, Amy) Schreyer, Liverpool, Ohio, and Gary (wife, Kim) Schreyer, Royal Center; three stepdaughters, Sharon (husband, Bill) Johnston, of Peru, Lois (husband, Steve) Hunt, and Lisa Stephenson, all of Logansport; stepgrandchildren, Trent, Tyler, Hilary, Abby, Garrett, Maddie, Nick, Lindy, Raylie, Jeremy, Kris and Laura; step great-grandchildren, Nate, Shiloh, Madison, Brooklyn and Gage; a sister-in-law, Una Pries, of Chicago; and many extended family members living in Ireland and England. 

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret; one stepdaughter, Marta Schreyer Phillips; and two step-grandchildren, Caleb Schreyer and Heidi Schreyer Damare.

Private family services will be held in Illinois. Internment will be in Maryhills Cemetery, Niles, Ill.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fisher Funeral Chapel.
