Susan L. (McKeever) Sater

LOGANSPORT — Susan L. (McKeever) Sater, 59, Logansport, passed away after an extended illness Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at her home in Logansport with her two children by her side.

Susie was born Jan. 12, 1954, to James K. and Elizabeth (Keplinger) McKeever in Logansport. Susie was a beautiful, intelligent and extremely private but determined woman. Rather than go on to college immediately after high school graduation in 1972, Susie opted to start a family. Her children, Chris and Joey, were the light of her life and the best times of her life were any times she spent with her “babies.”

While raising two young children and working full-time transcribing medical records at Memorial Hospital, Susie graduated summa cum laude from IUK and completed a two-year master’s program at IUPUI where she graduated with honors and earned her MSW, LCSW. After graduation, Susie began work at the Veterans Administration Northern Indiana Health Care System in Marion where she managed the contract nursing home program and retired after 20 years of service. She was an unyielding proponent of providing top-notch care to the many veterans she served and ensured they always received the maximum care the law provided.

Susie was the proud mother of Chris and Joey and her ultimate joy was spending time with her family. She loved to cross-stitch and created many beautiful heirloom pieces.

Survivors include her children, Christopher W. (Diana) Hizer, Logansport, and Joanna L. (Von) Moore, Somerset; sister, Kathryn J. McKeever, and brothers, James M. (Sondra) and Stephen A. (Donette) McKeever, all of Logansport; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Susie was preceded in death by her father James K. McKeever in 2002 and her mother Elizabeth L. Keplinger McKeever in 2003.

Susie was a loving mother, sister, daughter and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kroeger Funeral Home. The Rev. Aaron Gross will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery next to her mother.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral at Kroeger Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Logansport Church of the Brethren Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Condolences may be left online at kroegerfuneralhome.com.
