LCpl Jacob Allen ‘Jake’ Ross

LCpl Jacob Allen “Jake” Ross, 19, Gillette, Wyo., passed away March 24, 2010, while serving his country in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

Born May 13, 1990, in Jacksonville, N.C., Jake was the son of Dennis Ross and Karen Sundermeyer Ross, both of Gillette, Wyo.

Jake was married on Sept. 28, 2009, in Logansport, to Brittney Oliver, who survives, currently residing in Jacksonville, N.C.

Lance Cpl. Jacob Allen Ross was a 2008 Campbell County High School (Wyoming) graduate, where he was a member of the soccer and swim teams. Jacob excelled in carpentry and was Wyoming state champion in the Skills USA Carpentry Competition. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and paintball competitions where he also won several championships. After high school, Jake joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was stationed with the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines out of Camp Lejeune, N.C. He is remembered by his friends as “quiet, polite, intelligent, hard-working and kind-hearted.”

In addition to his wife and parents, Jake is survived by a paternal grandmother, Anetta Treymane and her husband, Richard, Cloverdale, Calif.; maternal grandmother, Sue Sundermeyer, Neillsville, Wis.; a sister, Katie Ross, and brother, Nathan Ross, both of Gillette; as well a niece, Piper Heck.

Also surviving in Logansport are his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hal and Susie Timmons Oliver, as well as other members of the Oliver and Timmons families.

Preceding in death are paternal grandfather, Jay Ross, and maternal grandfather, Harlan Sundermeyer.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Gillette Memorial Chapel in Gillette, Wyo.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial with full military honors will be in Mount Pisgah Cemetery, Gillette.

Memorial contributions may be made to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive, Triangle VA 22172.

Condolences from local friends may be left online for the family at www.kroegerfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements were handled by the Gillette Memorial Chapel, 210 W. Fifth Street, Gillette WY 82716.
