Emogene H. Whaley

Emogene H. Whaley, 90, Logansport, loving mother, devoted grandmother and friend to all, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Chase Center.

Born Jan. 3, 1922, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Henry and Emma Overmyer Rothermel.

On June 11, 1941, in Logansport, she was married to Vernon Ray Whaley, who preceded in death Nov. 26, 1989.

A 1940 graduate of Logansport High School, Emogene was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and All Saints Ladies Society. She had been a member of the Rosary Society, Infant Jesus of Prague Study Club and the Daughters of Isabella.

Emogene retired in 1985 from the Logansport State Hospital. She had also been employed as a teachers’ aide at Fairview West school. During World War II she volunteered with the American Red Cross. Later she volunteered for the Cass County Heart Fund and March of Dimes.

Emogene loved her flower garden, as well as reading, painting, knitting, crafts and sewing.

Surviving are eight children, Kristen (Frank) Gilbert, Peru, Rita (Hollis) Moor, Twelve Mile, Janice Lomax, Theresa (Tom) McIntosh, Stephen (Peggy) Whaley, Mark (Carol) Whaley, all of Logansport, Mary Jo (Philip) Keenan, Rochester, Mich., and Charles (Tina) Whaley, Alexandria; a brother, David (Rita) Rothermel, Logansport, and a sister, Mary Catherine Rignier, Plymouth.

Seventeen grandchildren also survive, Frank Eric Gilbert, Chris Honick, Jennifer Davis, Derrick McIntosh, Brandon McIntosh, Dr. Zachary Whaley, Scott Emmerd, Brent Whaley, Nick Whaley, Krista Lawler, Mike Ditto, Kaitlin Keenan, Michael Keenan, Aaron Whaley, Alexandra Whaley, Miranda Jiminez and Kindra Cummings, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Preceding in death were an infant daughter, Veronica Whaley, grandson, David Honick, and sons-in-law, Bill Honick and Alan Lomax.

The celebration of Emogene’s life will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church with Father Michael McKinney officiating.

Burial will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Logansport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Kroeger Funeral Home. A Scripture Service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic School or the American Red Cross.
