ROYAL CENTER — Ernest J. Gunter, 88, Logansport and formerly of Thornhope, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.
Born on Sept. 15, 1921, in Grass Creek, he was the son of the late Ernest L. and Mary E. (Benson) Gunter. On Oct. 27, 1940, he married Florence E. Black, who survives.
He was a truck driver for Kain Motors in Logansport for over 30 years.
He attended Bible Holiness Church in Logansport and he enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Florence Gunter, Logansport; sons, John R. Gunter, Larry W. Gunter and Floyd W. Gunter; daughter, Betty Anderson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Jean Reidelbach; three brothers; and one sister.
Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Homes, Royal Center Chapel.
Services will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Ropp officiating.
Burial will be at Thompson Cemetery, Royal Center.
