Billy D. Garbert

GALVESTON — Billy D. Garbert, 79, Galveston, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at IU Health University Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Walton, to the late Donald C. and Dorothy E. (Graft) Garbert. On Sept. 12, 1965, in Walton he married Helen D. (Scott), and she survives.

Billy graduated from Galveston High School. He served in the United States Army. Billy retired from Ameritech, which is now AT&T, after 36 years of service. Billy was a member of the American Legion Post 418, Walton, Walton Lodge No. 432 F&AM Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite Valley, Indianapolis.  

Surviving is his wife, Helen D. Garbert, Galveston, daughter, Lori Salmons, Idaville, son, Jeffrey D. Garbert, Iowa, daughter, Billie Garbert-Nelson, Galveston, a special grandson, Gunnar Nelson, as well as five other grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Dee Ann Fiedler, Fort Wayne, two special nieces, Debbie Rumple and Paula Pitner, as well as several other nieces and nephews.     

He is preceded in death by his parents.       

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Murray Weaver Funeral Home, Galveston, with the Revs. Ed Brock and Bill Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Galveston Cemetery, with full military rites conducted at the cemetery.  

Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.  

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lewis Cass FFA, Lewis Cass Band or the Galveston Fire Department.
