Gertrude E. ‘Gertie’ Murray

KOKOMO — Gertrude E. “Gertie” Murray, 97, Kokomo, formerly of Logansport, died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Waterford Place Health Campus, Kokomo.

She was born May 16, 1915, in Logansport, the daughter of Tony and Josephine (Marcucci) Sandi. On May 28, 1938, in Logansport, she married George E. Murray, who preceded her in death April 25, 1988.

Gertie was a homemaker. She had worked for 10 years at Switches Inc. She was active as a volunteer with the Red Cross. Her memberships included St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabelle, Rosary Society, Widow to Widow and the Kokomo Senior Citizens Center.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Murray and his wife, Kathy, of San Antonio, Texas, and James Murray and his wife, Norma, of Kokomo; six grandchildren, Chuck, Kathleen, Zach and Jennifer Murray of San Antonio, Texas, Craig Murray and his wife, Elizabeth, of Westfield, Chad Murray and his wife, Jennifer, of Indianapolis; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, five sisters and one brother.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Thursday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 West, Kokomo, with the Rev. Father David Huemmer the celebrant. A committal service will be held at 3:15 p.m.. Thursday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Logansport.

Friends are invited to call from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joan of Arc Church.
