Logansport and Cass County will lose an outstanding leader at the beginning of May. On Monday, Brian Shockney, Logansport Memorial Hospital’s president and chief executive officer, announced he would be resigning May 7 to become chief operating officer of Clarian Arnett Health System in Lafayette.
The hospital’s leader since 1999, Shockney has overseen a period of growth and modernization that has boosted the facility’s efficiency and reputation.
Over the last few years, Memorial Hospital has expanded the emergency room, renovated its private rooms, added a parking garage and created a new entrance.
The hospital has responded to challenges provided by the lowering of benefits paid by the federal government and what seems to be the continuous reduction in payments by insurance companies.
Yet, Shockney has also led the hospital into a position as the leader in the discussion of health and wellness issues in the community.
Logansport Memorial Hospital has been recognized for its employee program, Culture Connection, which assesses the physical and physiological health of its employees to set goals and reduce health care costs for both the employees and the hospital. A version of the program has been instituted at a number of other local companies.
And, with Cass County Family YMCA as its partner, the hospital is conducting a survey to measure the public’s health and wellness needs so that the organizations might develop programs to better serve the community.
Under his guidance, Logansport Memorial created the River Bluff Trail along the Eel River which offers people a 1.3-mile asphalt trail good for walking, jogging and biking.
The new job, Shockney said in his announcement, “is a very progressive step in my career.”
We offer our congratulations to him and wish him well in his new position.
