Global warming can’t be proven

It’s interesting how old ideas sometimes get resurrected and presented in a new light. In the ’40s and ’50s a scientist calculated that the world would run out of food. About that time a movie with Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson called “Soylent Green” came out. It depicted senior citizens by the government going to a facility to be put to sleep. Heston discovered they were made into green wafers for food.

Your cartoon on the Opinion page Aug. 26 said essentially the same thing.

I learned in computer school that “garbage” in means “garbage” out. There has been an awful lot of “garbage” coming out for many years ... the latest “Global Warming.”

My dad said, “Figures don’t lie, but liars figure.” Many people have learned that to their loss.

I learned in science that you formulate a theory, then you prove it. Darwin’s theory remains despite Leakey’s year-long effort to prove it.

A recent cartoon has a child asking, “If man came from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?”

The causes of global warming cannot be proven. Even changes in global weather can’t be accurately forecasted. Millions of people have been killed in the last 15 years because of floods, tsunamis, earthquakes and other weather-related events. One global warming proponent said in conclusion, “Except for volcanoes and earthquakes changing everything.” Joe Bowyer mentioned Krakatoa, which changed the weather for two years.

Dr. Kirsten Peters explained how carbon dating works except “sometimes it’s not accurate.” She didn’t say what would make it wrong. Other scientists say that rocks dated by carbon dating are millions of years old, only date before the flood.

The wrong emphasis on the causes of global warming is causing us, you and me, more in living expenses, food, electricity and transportation.

Like all the overweight people, the cost of the fix will rise and the mistake won’t be known until too late for us.
