The Logansport Redevelopment Commission has designated its first three Tax Increment Financing districts. The Logan’s Landing District is one of the first three to be approved, along with the combined airport/industrial park area and property along the Hoosier Heartland south of the city.

Rockfield has become the latest community to experience problems with septic systems. A Purdue University study finds that a third of Indiana septic systems are failing and 80 percent of Indiana soils will not support the systems.

Texas Gov. George W. Bush has tabbed Dick Cheney, the man who headed his vice presidential candidate search team, to be his running mate.

“X-Men” is playing at the state.

State Treasurer Julian Ridlen has announced he will seek the 5th District congressional seat held by Kokomo Republican Elwood “Bud” Hillis, who is retiring. Under Indiana law, Ridlen, a former Logansport city judge, cannot seek a third term as treasurer.

After the Cass County commissioners expressed their concerns, Conrail officials are making improvements to the 18th Street railroad crossing.

An anonymous letter to Loeb’s Department Store in Lafayette included $10 from a person who claimed to have an outstanding bill of 87 cents several decades ago.

Improvements at the Chrysler transmission plants in Kokomo will add nearly 500,000 square feet.

Flora residents listened carefully as Rep. Charlie Halleck, R-Rensselaer, read a letter from Flora’s Ada Wheeler during a speech at the GOP National Convention in Chicago. Wheeler wrote that she had been told Democrats would reduce the crop surplus in the country by feeding the hungry in the world, but Halleck said under Dwight Eisenhower, 1,000 shiploads of grain have been shipped to

needy people abroad. Among area residents attending the convention are Courtney Justice of Cass County, Arthur Ash and Orland Goble of Winamac and Robert Roth of Monticello.

In Carroll, Cass, Fulton, Miami, Pulaski and White counties, there are 4,497 4-H’ers planning projects for local fairs.

Belgium is moving its troops out of the Congo at the urging of the United Nations.

Dean Martin and Judy Holliday star in “Bells are Ringing” at the Logan.

Logansport’s Johnny “Red” Corriden has been recalled to the Major Leagues by St. Louis. He has been playing in Omaha.

A 185-foot smokestack is being built for the Logansport heating plant. L.C. Pittinger, a farmer near Burrows, has been found murdered on his farm.

Ash & Son Furniture on Linden Avenue now has electricity.

Police are warning of the possibility of burglars in the city.

Arthur Tritt of Walton is preparing for a balloon flight over Galveston.

The old basket factory at Walton has been destroyed by fire.

The first oats threshed this year went for 35 cents a bushel.

The state golf meet will be held at the Logansport Country Club.
