Cancer fundraiser a huge success
Back on Jan. 29 and 30, the Carroll Boys and Girls basketball teams put their collective efforts together for Coaches vs. Cancer.
With the help of donations from Northwestern High School, Rossville High School and the Carroll community, an astounding $5,960 was raised for the American Cancer Society! I wanted to congratulate all who helped make this event a huge success!
Thank you!

Writer apologizes for previous letter
I recently wrote a letter which was published in this forum asking George Franklin, candidate for sheriff of Cass County, to explain a campaign promise he is making to make inconceivable cuts to the sheriff’s department’s budget while still maintaining the safety and security of the community.
Rather than respond in kind, Mr. Franklin asked me to contact him, which I did. He proceeded to tell me that I had publicly embarrassed him by writing such a letter.
I wish to clarify my reason for writing the letter. I know several other people who have asked the same question. I thought that by asking Mr. Franklin to publicly explain how he intended to fulfill his campaign promise it would allow him to answer that question for everyone at the same time.
Instead, he felt that I had embarrassed him. So I now wish to make a public apology in this same forum.
Mr. Franklin, it was not my intent to embarrass you. I’m sorry if you misunderstood the meaning and context of my previous letter. I am sorry for any embarrassment that I have caused you by asking you to explain how you intend to fulfill your campaign promise when it is now obvious that you have no answer or explanation.
