PUBLIC FORUM: Thanks for making event a success

— This year, the Cass County Historical Society’s annual dinner focused on the 175th birthday of Logansport. The dinner was held at Dessert First Catering and More in the heart of downtown. Guests enjoyed a lively, first person performance of President Theodore Roosevelt, presented by Gib Young of Huntington, Ind.

Dessert First Catering and More owner Sarah Schroder and her staff and The People’s Winery owner Stacie Angle and staff for provided excellent service.

Amelio’s and Ike’s, Anytime Fitness, Applebee’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Coonie’s Select Auto, Creative Promotions, Grissom Air Museum, McCord’s Do it Best, Mr. Happy Burger, Pear Tree Gallery, Pizza Hut, Region’s Insurance, and Xpress Lube Plus donated wonderful prizes for the fund raiser portion of the evening.

Local artist Karen Smith donated a beautiful, one-of-a kind fine art piece for live auction. Karen handpaints on porcelain using the same techniques that were used thousands of years ago in China. The beautiful piece, a large vase, now belongs to longtime CCHS supporters Kelly and Pam Leeman who placed the winning bid.

CCHS board member Jeff Stuart spent time assembling a full-size bicycle, which was the prize donated by Regions Insurance.

People who worked to plan the evening then volunteered their services throughout the evening were Jeanie Jones, Jim and Andrea Perrone, Mike Fincher, Amy Denny, Lane Denny, Jim “Coonie” Conrad, Paul Ulerick, and Mayor Franklin, who set the stage and mood for Gib’s performance, reading an article on 1915 trends and headlines.

Former Logansport Mayor Jone Wilson, whose name is now Jone Hickey, traveled with her husband and good friends from Illinois to be a part of the event. A few good people of Logansport and Cass County sent regrets that they could not attend, but sent monetary donations, and words of support.
