PUBLIC FORUM: How can city prohibit sign?

What’s all the buzz? I recently placed a sign in my front yard. I got the idea from the back window of several pickup trucks.

A cartoon with a little boy urinating on a symbol for Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc. I simply made it larger and more colorful and used a different name. The name had been changed to Terry Young, a candidate for Pulaski County commissioner. Last week, I had an employee from the town come and ask me to take it down. When I asked why, I was informed the board had gotten complaints that it is “inappropriate.” I asked if it was OK that I just move it back against the house. I was then informed that the town board has a policy that political signs cannot be any larger than two feet by two feet.

I told him that the sign has no political identification on it. I was told “technically it is, since he’s running for office.” I also said there must be at least 100 people with the name Terry Young in the state of Indiana. I told him I would take it down for now and would later put it back up.

What happened to my First Amendment rights and my freedom of speech?  I have my reasons to display what I think of Terry Young. I’m just not participating in the coffee shop gossip.
