Having an unsuspected or immediate need for medical attention can be a traumatic event for just about any person. In our current healthcare system, there are entirely too many unknowns.

One reason I was so exultant when I retired is that retirement represents a definite completion ... and when you think about it, how many things in life do you finish for good? Not many because our existences mostly consist of a series of repetitions.

So how gullible are we? Food manufacturers say their caffeine-pumped food is intended for adults. Included in those foods are Jelly Belly “Extreme Sport Beans,” which have 50 mg of caffeine in each 100-calorie pack. A cup of coffee has about 100 mg of caffeine.

With spring and warmer weather (finally!), brings another baseball season. The board and managers/coaches at Logansport Youth Baseball have been extremely busy over the past two years renovating both our fields to provide a quality atmosphere for our players and fans who support our league.

MORTON: Good news is good
I like to complain as much as anybody else. In truth, I may do more than my share of finding fault and wagging a finger in warning. Nonetheless, I’m tired of commentators (including many economists) who find nothing good and only the darkest clouds for the past few months.

BOWYER: Hearing aids prove to be not much help
I know my hearing isn’t what it used to be, but it’s a long way from being completely shot. I can still carry on a phone conversation with a business associate, or a conversation with a friend without using an ear trumpet or a $5,000 hearing aid, although it gets kind of tough in a noisy restaurant.

OUR VIEW: Getting students college-bound
The student who knew he or she was college-bound from the time they walked into kindergarten to the student who never dreamed it was even possible to the student who hasn’t given college much thought. They all stand to benefit from the work Logansport High School and Indiana University Kokomo are doing.
