Kelly Koeneman and Matthew Shaffer

Kelly Koeneman and Matthew Shaffer were united in marriage at 4:30 p.m. June 13, 2009, in Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton, Va. Pastor Tim McKaig, Logansport, officiated at the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Michael and Lisa Koeneman, Roanoke, Va.

The groom is the son of Gary and Sandra Shaffer, Logansport.

The bride was escorted to the altar by her father. Erika Daly, Roanoke, Va., was the maid of honor. The bridesmaids included Molly Koeneman, sister of the bride, Roanoke, Va., Krystal Elliott, Lucerne, and Michelle Fratto, Cambria, Calif.

Brandon Shaffer, brother of the groom, Logansport, was the best man. The groomsmen were Lucas Beach, Lucerne, Shannon Stratton, Logansport, and Austin Koeneman, brother of the bride, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Brandon Shaffer and Austin Koeneman also served as ushers.

Music for the wedding was provided by pianist, Connie Murphy, aunt of the groom, Logansport, and trumpeter, Cory Schmitt, Roanoke, Va.

The readers were Paul Prios, Long Island, N.Y., and Joe Ferguson, Dothan, Ala.

The wedding reception was held in the Vinton War Memorial in Vinton, Va.

The bride is a 2005 graduate of Northside High School in Roanoke, and a 2009 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. She earned a bachelor’s degree in foreign studies and is 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army currently in training at Fort Sill, Okla.

The groom is a 2005 graduate of Pioneer High School, and a 2009 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. He earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering and is 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army currently in training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

The couple took a honeymoon trip to Aruba and will live in Fort Carson, Colo., in the spring of 2010.
